Desmarais Wins Democratic Party Nomination For CT State Senate
Desmarais said he will work to provide access to quality education, affordable healthcare, and safe and prosperous communities.

CT 32ND SENATE DISTRICT – Democratic delegates from the 32nd Senate District of Bethlehem, Bridgewater, Middlebury, Oxford, Roxbury, Seymour, Southbury, Washington, Watertown, and Woodbury have nominated Jeff Desmarais to serve as their party’s candidate for State Senate in the November election.

Desmarais, who received his nomination during a virtual convention on Tuesday, May 19th, was nominated by former Southbury Democratic Town Committee Chairperson Ron Pugliese, CEO of the Naugatuck Economic Development Corporation.
In his nominating speech Pugliese said, “Jeff Desmarais will honestly speak his mind, and work on issues that will improve the lives of all constituents in the 32nd District.”

Pugliese said Desmarais is an excellent candidate who gives Democrats the best possible chance of winning the Senate seat on November 3rd.
Desmarais is a lifelong resident of Connecticut. From an early age, he was interested in politics and history, and remembers wanting to help create a better, kinder, more equitable society for all Americans.
In his speech to accept his party’s nomination Desmarais said, “In these trying times, we have seen first-hand the value and necessity of good and functional government and the importance of advocating for policies designed to help the People.”
Desmarais said he will work to provide access to quality education, affordable healthcare, and safe and prosperous communities, and will ensure that CT’s infrastructure is modern and safe, and that our state’s businesses compete in fair and properly regulated markets.
“I will safeguard the rights of those in need, whether it is our poor, our seniors that live paycheck to paycheck, or those with physical or mental illness.,” he said. “I will protect the rights of women, minorities, members of the LGBTQ community, or anyone who’s rights are under assault.”
Jeff served in the Army National Guard from 1997 to 2003 and was named his battalion’s Soldier of the Year. He graduated from the University of Connecticut with a Bachelor of Political Science in 2004.
Joanna, Jeff’s wife of 16 years, is a registered nurse at the Watermark at East Hill in Southbury. They have lived in the Oakville section of Watertown for the past 14 years where they are raising their daughter Chloe, age 14, and son Ethan, age 11.
Jeff is currently employed as a Financial Advisor with Prudential. As a civic leader, he serves on the Watertown Public Buildings Commission, and the Charter Revision Commission. He is Chairperson of the Watertown/Oakville Democratic Town Committee, and briefly filled a vacancy on the Watertown Town Council. In 2018, Jeff ran for State Representative for the 68th District.
“I will work to make our state a shining example of what progressive government can do to improve the lives of our People,” Desmarais added. “I will be dedicated to speaking truth to power, to stand for what is right over what is expedient, and to value human lives over the short-term possibility of material gain.”
Desmarais concluded by stating he will bring forward-thinking representation and leadership to Hartford to make certain government of, by and for the People does not perish.
