Roxbury Fire Department Damaged, PPE Destroyed

The town will be seeking to replenish its personal protection equipment supply following an arson incident.

ROXBURY, CT — Police are investigating a fire that was intentionally set at Roxbury's volunteer fire department Saturday along with several similar incidents, according to NBC CT. The building sustained heavy smoke damage and the department has had to move its trucks and equipment to ensure continued service.

The town's stockpile of personal protection equipment for emergency responders was also damaged and will have to be destroyed, according to NBC CT. The town is looking at options for replenishing the supply.

Richard White, 37, of Torrington, is accused of committing four arsons Saturday, including the Roxbury firehouse incident. White had been in a physical fight with another employee at Hunters Ambulance, and a disciplinary hearing led to him being put on leave, according to WFSB 3-TV.

Old Saybrook Police said they obtained an arrest warrant for White, of Wheeler Lane, and are charging him with third-degree arson and third-degree burglary. His bond is set at $150,000.
