Annually, a Northwest CT Delegation Attends the New York Gathering That’s Aimed at Reviving Jewish Awareness and Practice In Northwest CT and Around the World.
This Year, Due to the Pandemic Northwest CT Rabbis Will Not Travel to New York, But Are Opening Their Conference to the Entire Northwest CT Public to Join Them on This Year’s Global Virtual Gathering.
Northwest, CT — Each year, Rabbi Eisenbach heads a delegation to the world’s largest rabbinical conference—the International Conference of Chabad-Lubavitch Emissaries. This year, with the conference being conducted entirely virtually, Rabbi Eisenbach is inviting all of Northwest CT to join him online at chabadNW.org/Kinus on Sunday, Nov. 15 at 1:00 p.m. - to participate in this year’s conference.

The virtual conference will unite thousands of Jewish communities from all 50 U.S. states and more than 100 countries, from as far away as Laos and Angola, Ghana and Uzbekistan and as close by as Chabad Lubavitch of Northwest CT.
The event, with close to six thousand people, is the largest annual Jewish gathering in North America, is aimed at reviving Jewish awareness and practice around the world. This year, it will include special focus on the pivot to serving communities amid the pandemic, with consideration for the added needs of so many and safety precautions—which necessitated the closure of communal buildings and synagogues—in providing for said needs.

The rabbis—each embracing multiple roles and responsibilities—explore relevant issues, and learn from professionals and colleagues with years of experience. This year the topics covered run the gamut of pandemic-related issues, including online and outdoor events during the pandemic; providing emotional and mental support; marriage counseling in a lockdown; hospital chaplaincy for patients and front-line medical personnel; aid for those in financial distress; as well as bringing healing, hope and unity to a divided society; combating antisemitism and bigotry; stemming the tide of assimilation; inclusion; synagogue security; and a conference within the conference for rabbis who serve students on college campuses, ensuring a lasting impact on the next generation of communal leaders.
The conference will highlight how communities have found ways to safely surmount the challenges of creating space for dynamic Jewish life in Northwest CT even as they closed the physical doors of Chabad Lubavitch of Northwest CT to in-person events during the height of the pandemic.
“While the lockdown created challenges in our mission to provide vibrant Jewish life in Northwest CT shutting down was never an option, even as we had closed our doors to in-person services,” says Rabbi Eisenbach. “Chabad Lubavitch of Northwest CT, and Chabad-Lubavitch centers like ours around the world, found ways to further our mission, and serve all those who need our help, and this year’s convention will enable us to learn from each other’s success and continue to meet the challenges facing our communities.”
The International Conference of Chabad-Lubavitch emissaries was founded in 1983 by the Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem M. Schneerson, of righteous memory, considered the most influential rabbi in modern history. The Rebbe orchestrated a Jewish revival after the Holocaust and built the network of Chabad-Lubavitch institutions that serves millions around the world today. Over 5,000 Chabad-Lubavitch emissary families continue to realize the Rebbe’s vision of making Judaism accessible to all. The conference brings added significance as this year marks 70 years since the Rebbe became the "Rebbe," assuming spiritual leadership of the Chabad-Lubavitch movement.
The challenge this year to the rabbis is that the energy will need to be shared from a distance but it will be no less powerful.
