A woman working for a local business is being charged with embezzlement.

MIDDLEBURY, CT — An employee has been arrested and charged with embezzling more than $500,000 from a Middlebury business, according to a Waterbury Republican-American report. Barbara Petrosky, 69, who worked for Matthews Commercial Properties, was arrested June 28 and charged with first-degree larceny, a felony, and three counts of third-degree forgery.

Gerry Matthews told the Republican-American that he was shocked by the news and that Petrosky was a person who they trusted like family.

Petrosky is alleged to have kept two sets of books, a move that allowed her to write 334 fraudulent checks and steal $569,000.
