Middlebury Police Getting New Equipment
After two close calls, Middlebury officers will now keep multiple life jackets in their vehicles.

Following a near drowning last week at Hop Brook and an injured skater on Fenn's Pond last winter, Middlebury Police have decided that officers will now be equipped with life jackets.
“Fenn's Pond is no longer just a foot or so deep, its more like six feet in spots and if a police officer has to go onto the ice for a medical issue they should have protection,” said Richard Wildman, Middlebury Acting Police Chief.
If an officer goes into the water for an emergency they will have a personal flotation device on and an extra flotation device in their vehicle, so officers can give it to the victim they are swimming out to.

“Hopefully we will never have to use them, but better to err on the side caution,” said Wildman.
