Pomperaug, Nonnewaug High School Runners Qualify for State Open

MANCHESTER, CT — Pomperaug and Nonnewaug high schools will each be represented in both races at the State Open cross country championships this Friday at Wickham Park in Manchester.

At the Class L meet Saturday, also at Wickham Park, the Pomperaug girls team won with a total of 62 points, far outdistancing runnerup Wilton's 103. The boys team compiled 73 points to place second behind champion New Milford's 54.

For Nonnewaug, D.J. Geissinger-Tuttle and Elias Field made it into the Open based on their performance in the Class SS race, while Helene Berger qualified from the Class M girls race.
