Proposed Middlebury Budget Decreases Spending: Report

For this year's budget, funds were approved on a one-time basis for a couple of items, which is helping driving the spending decrease.

MIDDLEBURY, CT — First Selectman Edward B. St. John is seeking an $11.4 million proposed budget for fiscal 19-20, which would actually decrease spending by 7.4 percent, according to the Republican-American.

But there is a bit of a catch as most of the decrease is attributed to the fact that funds earmarked for an open space purchase, Straw Pond, and a fire apparatus will come off the books by the next fiscal year, the Rep-Am reports.

He told the Rep-Am that in reality his plan increases spending by 1.9 percent.
