Severe Thunderstorm Watch Issued for Woodbury and Middlebury

Damaging winds, heavy rain and other weather threats are possible later today.

WOODBURY, CT — A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for Woodbury and Middlebury. It is in effect until 8 p.m. tonight.

According to the National Weather Service: "Numerous showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop across the area from this afternoon into tonight ahead of a slow moving cold front. Multiple rounds of thunderstorms have the potential to move across the same area, leading to flash flooding."

Earlier today the National Weather Service issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for the entire state and a Flash Flood Watch for Fairfield, New Haven, Hartford, and Tolland counties.

The National Weather Service says the main threat is expected to be strong winds and areas under a Flash Flood Watch may see a quick burst of an inch or two of rain. Flash flooding is a concern, the weather service states. The weather service says we could see lightning, hail and there is a very low risk for an isolated tornado in Connecticut.

This Afternoon
A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Some storms could be severe, with damaging winds, gusty winds, and heavy rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 84. South wind 13 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Tonight
Showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 2am. Some storms could be severe, with damaging winds and heavy rain. Low around 67. South wind 8 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.
