Stop by Rita's of Middlebury for a Tasty Frozen Treat

Middlebury, CT - Rita's of Middlebury offers a wide variety of frozen treats. On the menu are many varieties of Italian Ice, Frozen Custard, Sundaes, Gelati, Misto shakes, Blendini and much more. New flavors are made fresh daily and they taste that way.

The friendly staff member gave me a paper copy of the "Rita's ordering guide for treats and everyday celebrations." It is a comprehensive list of the types of items that one can order, but does not include the flavors that are made fresh every day.

First on the list of offerings are Italian Ices, "refreshingly smooth and out of this world." You can choose a large or regular of one of the refreshing flavors available in the case. Sugar-free, cream ice and all-natural ice is also available.

Frozen custard is billed as "award winning, creamy and delicious" and it really is. You can choose a large or regular-sized cup, cone or waffle bowl and you can add a topping or custardize a sundae. The variety of flavors is impressive and you are able to taste before you make your choice.

A Blendini is frozen custard, Italian Ice with toppings. First you select whether you want an original, all-custard or stuffed version, and then you select your Italian Ice, Frozen custard and your toppings. You can upgrade by adding a core filling.

Frozen tea is sippable tea made with fresh Italian Ice and is available in large or regular and you may select half and half or sweet tea. Frozen coffee is available in delicious coffee flavors and are made with Italian Ice. They are can be ordered in a large or regular size in original, mocha or caramel flavor and you may add whipped cream and a drizzle if you wish.

Fresh baked cookie sandwiches come with delicious cookies handcrafted with custard in the middle. You choose the flavor of the cookies as well as the flavor of the custard and you may warm it up for extra gooey-goodness.

A Misto Shake is Italian Ice that is "taken for a spin with custard." This treat allows you to select your size, your Ice flavor and your custard flavor. Gelati is Italian Ice that is layered with frozen custard and you choose both of the flavors.

Milkshakes, an "all-time favorite made with frozen custard," allows you to choose your flavor and enjoy.

The frozen drink is made with your favorite Italian Ice flavor that is swirled into the "ultimate thirst quencher and is available in regular and large sizes. I plan to try one of these on my next visit.

I tried a hand crafted custard that is made with the frozen custard that is handcrafted in small batches. Again you can choose a large or regular size in a cup, cone or waffle bowl. After I selected my flavor, I was able to choose two toppings in addition to the whipped cream and cherry I said "yes" to.

Rita's of Middlebury is located at 900 Straits Turnpike in Middlebury, CT, right next to Leo's Restaurant and Karmic Inspirations, with plenty of parking nearby. Fundraising opportunities are available. The cozy shop is open Monday through Sunday from noon to 9:00pm and it will close for the season on Dec. 15, 2019.
