Woodbury Fire Fighters Recertify Fire and Rescue Skills

Semi-Annual 'Recert Sunday" Emphasized Forcible Entry, CPR, Pumps and Hoses, Driving, Personal Gear Inspection

WOODBURY – The Woodbury Volunteer Fire Department assembled Sunday morning May 2nd for semi-annual recertification in fire-fighting and rescue techniques. With guidance from fellow volunteers in the Woodbury Ambulance Association, forty firefighters practiced CPR and other emergency firstaid. An instruction team from Flash Fire Industries, Monroe CT, ran firefighters through the latest techniques in forcing entry through barred steel doors. Firefighters refreshed knowledge of operating pumps and hoses. Drivers requalified in steering firetrucks through an exercise that included maneuvering along a slalom course. They even rehearsed parallel parking in the unwieldy vehicles, although as Former Deputy Fire Bill Garms observed, “In the real world, drivers park firetrucks wherever they need to.” Fire Chief Janet B. Morgan inspected every firefighter’s PPE – Personal Protective Equipment. Finally they completed a blizzard of legal forms under supervision of Former Capt. Frank Morgan. ###
