Woodbury Fire Volunteers: 60 Call-outs in Year's First Quarter
Total Included 19 Fire or Rescue Runs, Chief Says

WOODBURY – The Woodbury Volunteer Fire Department responded to 60 call-outs in the first quarter of 2021 including six fires and 13 rescues, Chief Janet B. Morgan told the monthly firefighters’ meeting on Wednesday April 14th in the department headquarters. A major fire January 9th that destroyed a home under construction caused an estimated $600,000 in damage, Chief Morgan added. Fortunately there were no fire injuries, she said.
Of the 13 rescue call-outs, ten were responses to motor vehicle accidents. In all, the 19 rescue and fire calls accounted for just about a third of the 60 incidents to which the town’s volunteer firefighters responded in the first three months of the year. Five calls were for what are deemed hazardous conditions: these comprised four downed power lines and one gas leak. Service calls accounted for another 15 runs including mutual aid to nearby departments. Automatic alarm systems generated 19 responses without incidents. There were two minor runs as well. “We’re very proud of the efforts of Woodbury’s volunteers,” Chief Morgan said. “Responding means time away from work, family, meals, or sleep, plus a great many hours spent in training and maintenance.”
