Woodbury Firefighters Annual Xmas Tree Bonfire Draws Crowd

More than 200 Discarded Trees in Yearly Safety Demo

WOODBURY – “in a second or two your ceiling temp is 800 degrees and your drapes are beginning to blaze,” warned Bud Neal, a Woodbury firefighter, in his annual safety demonstration of the fire hazard from a dry Christmas tree on Saturday January 16th. Neal, a former fire chief, was kicking off the annual pyre of discarded seasonal evergreens before a safely-distanced crowd of 150 town residents (photo) at the Woodbury Volunteer Fire Dept.

Fire officials estimated there were 200 trees in the dramatic bonfire, many of them collected by members of Boy Scout troop 54 in a combined anti-litter, fire-safety, and fund-raising drive. Fully-garbed firefighters stood by throughout the official bonfire of trees, wreaths, and evergreen decorations. ###
