Woodbury Firefighters Hone Extrication Rescue Skills
Destroy Two Donated Used Cars in Oct 31st Exercise; Chief Notes Department Responded to Half Dozen Car Crashes Previous Month
Woodbury Volunteer Firefighters honed their auto accident rescue techniques at a drill Saturday October 31st. Under the direction of Fire Lt. Steve Cunningham, ten department members cut their way into two used cars donated by Fire Capt Corey Shaker, ceo of the Shaker automotive group. Part of the drill was used to demonstrate avoiding being hurt by sudden detonation of airbags and other pressurized components while rescuing victims. The vehicles – a 2007 Ford Explorer and a 2006 Ford Expedition – were entirely demolished in the exercise at department headquarters 25 Quassuk Rd, Woodbury. “We responded to a half-dozen motor vehicle accidents in the preceding month,” noted Chief Janet B. Morgan. “These drills reinforce skills used in real-time events to save lives.”
