Woodbury Names New First Selectman: Report
Up to 1,000 people attended a memorial service to celebrate the life of William J. Butterly Jr. Sunday.

WOODBURY, CT — The Woodbury community and beyond came out Sunday to celebrate the life of First Selectman William J. Butterly Jr. who died late last month. Butterly, 75, was the beloved leader of the town over the past six years.
Barbara K. Perkinson has been named the new first selectman. She had run for the town's top spot in 2015 and was the acting first selectman to Butterly, the Republican-American reports.
On Sunday, hundreds of people attended Butterly's memorial service held at the Olde Town Hall.

It's estimated that nearly 1,000 people attended the ceremony, which featured donations from numerous businesses, the Rep-Am reports. Doughnuts were handed out to people in line. Butterly was adamant that his service wouldn't be a grim occasion.
