United Way of Delaware (UWDE) today announced that Julia Ashworth of JPMorgan Chase and Vince Stutts of DuPont were each elected to a three-year term on the UWDE Board of Directors, that Doug Phillips of Horty & Horty, P.A. was elected to a one-year term as Chair of UWDE’s Audit Committee, and that Lauren Russell of Young Conaway Stargatt & Taylor was elected as an ex-officio Board member and named General Counsel of UWDE. Commenting on the elections, UWDE President and Chief Executive Officer Michelle Taylor said, “United Way of Delaware is proud that our Board comprises a diverse cross-section of thoughtful individuals who share a deep concern for our community. As we lean in to our statewide strategy to ensure grade-level literacy, college and career success, financial stability, and racial justice, I look forward to working with each of these exceptional individuals to ensure that United Way of Delaware is delivering on its mission to improve the quality of life for all Delawareans.” The following individuals were unanimously elected to serve on the UWDE Board of Directors, effective June 10, 2021: Julia Ashworth Managing Director, Southwest Airlines Co-brand General Manager, JPMorgan Chase Ms. Ashworth is the JPMorgan Chase Managing Director leading the bank’s Southwest Airlines credit card co-brand. In this role, she leads Chase Customer Experience and Communications where she is focused on improving customer experiences by transforming feedback into insights to reduce complaints, strengthening customer communications, and growing relationships. Her team includes the JPMC Office of the Chairman, Executive Office, Social Media Service, Loyalty Analytics, Complaints Management, Privacy Office, Servicing Communications, and Translation Services. Prior to joining Chase in 2012, she was U.S. Card Marketing executive at Bank of America. During her 16 years at Bank of America and MBNA, Ms. Ashworth held diverse leadership positions in areas of marketing, product strategy, lending operations, customer service, collections, and insurance services. Ms. Ashworth is a graduate of Pennsylvania State University’s Smeal College of Business. Doug Phillips President & Managing Director, Horty & Horty, P.A. Through his leadership of Horty & Horty, P.A., Mr. Phillips provides accounting, auditing, tax planning, compliance, consulting and business advisory services to clients in a wide range of sectors including construction, manufacturing, gaming, not-for-profit and professional services. Mr. Phillips is actively involved in building business relationships, overseeing the firm’s marketing initiatives and authoring numerous articles for publication and addition to the firm’s article library. A Certified Public Accountant, he is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), Delaware Society of Certified Public Accountants (DSCPA), Maryland Association of Certified Public Accountants (MACPA), National Association of Certified Valuators and Analysts (NACVA), Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) and American Board of Forensic Accounting (ABFA). He currently serves on various committees of United Way of Delaware, the Greater Kent Committee and Delawareans for Environmental and Economic Development (DEED). He holds a Bachelor of Science, Accounting, from the University of Delaware. Lauren Russell Counsel, Young Conaway Stargatt & Taylor Ms. Russell specializes in the representation of employers on a range of issues relating to compliance with local, state, and federal labor and employment laws and constitutional provisions. She provides compassionate and responsive counsel, targeted at achieving client goals while minimizing cost and risk. Mr. Russell emphasizes client counseling—on issues ranging from wage and hour compliance, to workplace training and investigations, to effective employee terminations—with the goal of avoiding litigation before it begins. Her counseling practice includes handbook revisions, effective policy implementation, and on-site training on legal compliance. Ms. Russell has developed and conducts specialized in-house training for emerging legal issues including pregnancy, reproductive rights, and family care provisions of the Delaware Discrimination in Employment Act. She has experience in each of Delaware’s state and federal courts, as well as the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. Ms. Russell holds a Bachelor of Arts, with honors, from Wesleyan University, and law degree from the Temple University Beasley School of Law. Vince Stutts (3 year) Global Director for Environmental, Health and Safety, DuPont Mr. Stutts is the Global Director for Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) at DuPont. He leads the staff function comprised of the corporate EHS Center of Excellence and regional centers of competency which provide strategic and technical support to company locations globally. His team is accountable for setting EHS policy and standards, defining EHS strategy, driving world class EHS performance, implementing management systems to support compliance, crisis management and sustainability focus. His organization works in close partnership with EHS resources embedded at the business and site level to realize the enterprise EHS mission. During his 22-year-plus career with DuPont, Mr. Stutts has held a variety of leadership roles in operations, maintenance, supply chain and engineering. A mechanical engineer by training, he worked for NASA as a rocket propulsion engineer prior to joining DuPont. Mr. Stutts holds a degree in mechanical engineering from Tuskegee University, and a Masters of Business Administration from William Carey University.
