Mayor Mike Purzycki today urged City residents to continue to take steps to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus. The Mayor asked residents not to become complacent and ease up on following COVID restrictions simply because vaccines are now more available. He said residents should still be tested for the virus, wear a mask, avoid large crowds, and wash their hands.

The Mayor said City residents can be tested FREE for COVID-19 this week at test locations in and around Wilmington. Flu shots are also available. For more information or to find the site nearest to you, visit either:

In addition, COVID-19 testing will be conducted by appointment only at the Henrietta Johnson Medical Center, 601 New Castle Avenue, on the following dates:

  • Wednesday, March 17: 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.; 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Thursday, March 18: 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Friday, March 19: 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Saturday, March 20: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Call 302.655.6187 to schedule an appointment. Henrietta Johnson also offers FREE flu shots this week, Monday and Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.; and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. No appointment is necessary for flu shots.

Mayor Purzycki expresses his thanks to the State and New Castle County governments as well as the City and State Emergency Management offices for arranging the weekly COVID testing events in Wilmington and throughout New Castle County.
