Pennsylvania Bar Association’s Diversity and Inclusion Award

WILMINGTON, Del. (May 2021) – Maron Marvel Bradley Anderson & Tardy is proud to announce that Antoinette D. Hubbard and the other members of PBA’s Minority Bar Committee Diversity Summit Subcommittee Planning Team have received PBA’s 2021 Award for Outstanding Leadership in Diversity and Inclusion.

The award recognizes Hubbard and fellow team members for their work planning the Pennsylvania Bar Association’s Diversity Summit held in October 2020. The summit examined implicit bias, social justice issues raised by the killing of George Floyd, and best practices to increase diversity and inclusion for members of the Bar and law firms as leaders of the profession.

The award was presented on May 20, 2021 during the Pennsylvania Bar Association’s virtual awards luncheon presentation.

“I have served on the Diversity Summit Subcommittee for the Minority Bar Committee of the Pennsylvania Bar Association for the past eight years. I am especially proud of how the 2020 Summit met the moment to address the diversity and equity issues with which the average person was struggling and also the special needs and duties of lawyers as officers of the court,” said Hubbard. “Our goal was to offer attorneys, law firms and bar associations practical tips and tools they could implement to advance diversity, equity and inclusion throughout our legal system.”

The day-long summit included a session on Developing Skills to Become an Ally, a presentation on Pipeline Efforts in the Legal Profession, and a segment entitled “Increasing Juror Participation, Diversity, and Court Access.” A highlight of the summit was an interactive session during which attendee breakout groups devised concrete steps and strategies to improve diversity, equity, and inclusion in their workplaces and wider communities.

Hubbard has served as Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Director for Maron Marvel since 2013, working closely with firm leaders to advance its DE&I efforts. Recent initiatives include sponsoring the Delaware Minority Job Fair, partnering with firm clients to host a CLE seminar on diversity in the legal profession and the strengths of diverse working teams, and leading a firm-wide discussion on racial justice, followed by the selection of a social justice organization to which to contribute.

Maron Marvel recently was honored by BP America Inc. with its 2020 Legal Diversity and Inclusion Award. Each year, the company recognizes one outside counsel firm that has shown exceptional focus on promoting diversity, equity and inclusion in the legal profession and society as a whole.
