Wilmington Again Receives National Award For Excellence In Financial Reporting

Wilmington Mayor Mike Purzycki and the City Finance Director J. Brett Taylor today expressed appreciation to the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for awarding Wilmington with a Certification of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting.

The GFOA award recognized the quality of the City’s Fiscal Year 2019 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR), a report which provides a complete look at a completed fiscal year’s financial information. The CAFR report is available here for viewing by residents, elected officials, and other interested parties. Wilmington has a long history of providing accurate and useful financial information as this is the City’s 31st consecutive GFOA award.

The GFOA is recognized as one of the best sources of financial reporting guidance for state and local governments in North America. It has a membership of nearly 19,000 government finance professionals throughout the U.S. and Canada.

“I continue to be proud of Brett and his team for keeping Wilmington’s long record of excellence in financial reporting intact,” said Mayor Purzycki. “We always strive to present financial information in an easy-to-understand and professional format. Earning this award consistently year after year is a notable achievement and affirms that the City is following the financial industry’s highest practices and benchmarks. More importantly, by making government finances digestible for everyone, we are encouraging more citizens to participate in their government.”
