Wilmington Mayor Mike Purzycki and Police Chief Robert J. Tracy today released 17 additional directives from Chapter 6 of the Wilmington Police Department’s (WPD) Policy and Procedures Manual. Over the past two months, all but a few remaining directives from Chapter 6 have been posted online for public review. The last remaining 20 or so directives from Chapter 6 are under review by the WPD and Law Departments and will be released in the next week or so as confidential police investigative procedures are redacted.
Earlier this summer, Mayor Purzycki and Chief Tracy pledged their support for racial and criminal justice reforms and additional transparency because they believe that the more residents know about policing policies and procedures, the more comfortable they can become with police officers and policing operations. That knowledge, said the Mayor and Chef, will hopefully translate into even more cooperation among City police officers and residents.

The 17 additional policy directives from Chapter 6 being released today cover a broad range of topics, including the WPD’s relationships with outside agencies, police training, and the department’s response to a variety of hazardous conditions and occurrences.
The Mayor thanked the Law and Police Departments for moving swiftly this summer to review and release the eight chapters of the manual, which marks the first time in the City’s history that the policy and procedures manual has been made public in its entirety.
