2013 Georgetown Preschool Preview: On your marks, get set, GO! Yup, it's time for the full-contact, emotionally-charged sport of finding and getting your kid into pre-school.  According to the event notice, "Schools and  playgroups will have tables set up with admissions information and  representatives ready to tell you about their programs." This annual event takes place Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at St. Patrick’s Episcopal Day School, 4700 Whitehaven Pkwy., NW.ÂDistrict Sample Sale: Snag some killer fashion at bargain prices at the 13th ever District Sample Sale this Tuesday from 5:30 to 9 p.m. This year's event will be held at The Sphinx Club, 1315 K St., NW, and proceeds will benefit the N Street Village.Â
Celebrate Banned Books Week with DCPL and the DC Rollergirls: DC Public Library has partnered with the DC Rollergirls to create a series of collectible trading cards. Each card features a team member posing at a DC library with a frequently challenged book. A different collectible card will be available for pick up each day during Banned Books Week at any branch. The culmination will be Saturday at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library, , when collecters can secure the last trading card and meet members of the DC Rollergirls, who will be autographing the cards from 9:30 t0 11:30 a.m.

Wednesday, a celebration of Verdi will be held at the Embassy of Italy, 3000 Whitehaven St., NW, Washington. A lost aria, lyrics and music will be discussed during the event celebrating the 200th anniversary of the composer. Free, at 7 p.m. 202-612-4400
End-of-Summer Jazz Soiree with ICDC: The International Club of DC will bid adieu to summer with some jazz, dinner and dancing at Dumbarton House, 2715 Q St. NW this Friday from 7 to 10 p.m.Â
