Annual Softball Tournament Fills Glover Park with Cheers

The 31st annual tournament was Saturday and Sunday in Glover Park.

Whether or not the Near Misses lived up to their name, the players were enjoying the 31st annual Glover Park Coed Softball League tournament on Stoddert Field, Sunday.

The the two-day tournament took over the Stoddert Field and filled Glover Park with cracking bats, grilling dogs and cheering teammates.

Many of the teams take their names from familiar parts of Glover Park life. The "Beech Bums" come from Beecher Street, the street on which many the players live. Or the D2s, like the bus many residents rely on to get to work.

Near Misses team member Chris Cicatelli is also the league podcast producer and color commentator during the tournament Sunday. He told Patch he wasn't giving up on his team the Near Misses, but that the favorite for the weekend was the 39ers.

Patch will have an update later on who won the tournament.
