Barkada Opens In U Street NW Corridor Offering Intriguing Wines

The co-owners converted a walk-in freezer into a "wine cave" at the new site in Georgetown.

GEORGETOWN, DC — In the heat of summer during a global pandemic, business partners Nick Guglietta and Anthony Aligo revamped a walk-in freezer at a former Menchie's site into a "wine cave" for the U Street NW corridor's newest wine bar. The interesting wines were curated by Sebastian Zutant, also a co-owner, who owns Primrose, a wine bar in Brookland.

On Wednesday, Barkada opened at 1939 12th St. NW and will be open for business from 5 to 10 p.m. weekdays and from noon to 10 p.m. weekends. Limited indoor seating is available and there is seating available on the outdoor patio. Sixty bottled wines are available and 16 by glass. The food menu includes sandwiches, smoked fish platters and other dishes.
