GEORGETOWN, DC — After 25 years in operation, upscale grocery chain Dean & DeLuca is now closed in Georgetown. The store officially shuttered its doors on Aug. 1.

The company is based out of New York City and has several locations across the U.S. Georgetown's Dean & DeLuca is located in a massive brick building on M Street.

In recent years, Dean & DeLuca struggled to pay its purveyors and closed down stores in New York and San Francisco, according to Eater DC.

A representative for the chain issued a statement to Eater DC about the closure.

"Dean & DeLuca will focus on its flagship store located on Prince Street in New York City while it reassesses how to transform its business model to address challenges that are facing many brands in the sector," the representative writes.

In the meantime, the store in Georgetown will undergo a major renovation. Dean & DeLuca, however, has decided not to re-open after renovations are complete, according to WTOP.
