Dumbarton Oaks Park Conservancy Launches Artist-in-Residence Program

The Park Conservancy group launched an artist-in-residence program, and the inaugural award was given to DC-based artist Sophia McCrocklin.

GEORGETOWN, DC — Dumbarton Oaks Park Conservancy announced Wednesday that they're launching an Artist-in-Residence program to reinforce their mission to restore, promote and maintain Beatrix Farrand's Dumbarton Oaks Park.

The first recipient to hold this esteemed position is Sophia McCrocklin. McCrocklin was chosen because of her growing body of work entitled "Ferns of Dumbarton," which enhances the greater community connection to this national landscape. McCrocklin's large scale reproductions of ferns explore the connection between art and nature.

As the Park's Artist-in-Residence, McCrocklin will create Art in the Park lesson plans for the Park's "Leave No Child Inside" environmental education program. McCrocklin will also act as an ambassador to further engage the community in restoration of the 27-acre Dumbarton Oaks Park, which was formerly part of the Dumbarton Oaks estate.
