Shahin Mafi, the Azar Foundation for Children of the World, has been a long-time advocate and supporter of underprivileged and orphaned children and women internationally. Monies that she has raised over the years has been used to aid those needing healthcare, education and housing. Since the foundation’s inception in 2003, when it began as a private family foundation with limited outreach, it has grown to include a larger community of women and children living in the U.S. as well as around the globe. This growth has been made possible by a strategic plan to redefine its mission and give it a sustainability by developing a funding protocol with other groups in order to enlarge its philanthropic outreach.www.azar4children.org
Lena Alfi, Middle East Children’s Institute, believes, that through education and the development of skills, children and women from vulnerable areas in the Middle East can become agents of change, as well as positive role models and leaders. By providing them with support, the institute is encouraging them to form vibrant communities that will bring stability to the region. This can best be achieved by meeting the required educational, psychosocial, health, and other essential needs of women and children that will give them the strength to deal with their impoverished condition brought about by war. With this goal in mind, the Middle East Children’s Institute is using its energy to target vulnerable communities and to present to them the tools that will allow these communities to develop in a sustainable manner. www.mecinstitute.org
