Georgetown Basketball Bus Crashes on I-95

The Georgetown University men's basketball team bus collided with an SUV on I-95 on the way to a Villanova game, police say.

GEORGETOWN, D.C. — The Georgetown University men's basketball team ran into a delay on their way to Villanova University, when their bus struck an SUV on I-95 in Howard County Monday afternoon, the Maryland State Police announced.

The team was headed north on I-95 near Route 100 for Tuesday night's game against Villanova, when their team bus hit the back of a Lexus around 2:30 p.m., police said.

The Lexus then drove off the right side of the highway and overturned, police said.

A private ambulance was passing by the scene right after the crash and stopped to help, and fire and EMS personnel from Howard County also responded, police said.

The Lexus passengers—a 49-year-old woman and her 17-year-old son—were both taken to Harbor Hospital. Both passengers reportedly exited the vehicle on their own, police said. There's no word on their injuries yet.

No one on the bus was injured by the accident, police said, and Georgetown basketball players got out of the bus to help the Lexus passengers.

The right two lanes of I-95 were closed for about 45 minutes following the accidents.

The crash investigation is ongoing and no charges have been filed, police said.
