Grocery Stores Hours For Christmas 2017 In Virginia, DC

WASHINGTON, DC — Stocking every ingredient for Christmas dinner is no small job. Whether it's brown sugar to glaze the ham, or wine to toast the holiday, something always gets left off the shopping list. Are any northern Virginia or Washington, D.C., grocery stores open on Christmas, Monday, Dec. 25, if you need to re-supply to feed visitors?

Here is a list of holiday hours for large chain stores, just in case you need to run out for food, drink, or gifts at the very last minute.

Nearly every food store in the region — Giant, Wegmans, Whole Foods and Harris Teeter among others — is closed on Christmas. A few Safeway stores in the DC area will be open with limited hours, so check on individual stores. The day after Christmas, most return to normal operating hours. (See full list below.)

Here's a list of Christmas and New Year's Day hours for northern Virginia and DC grocery chains, taken from their websites and emails to Patch. Some stores may vary.

Christmas, New Year's Store Hours

• Giant Foods: Christmas Eve and Day — Stores will close at 6 p.m. on Dec. 24 and will be closed Dec. 25. Stores will re-open at 6 a.m. on Dec. 26. New Year's Eve and Day — Stores will be open until 9 p.m. on Dec. 31 and will re-open at 6 a.m. on Jan. 1.
• Harris Teeter: Christmas Eve and Day — Harris Teeter stores are open until 7 p.m. on Christmas Eve and closed on Christmas Day. Stores re-open at 8 a.m. on Dec. 26. New Year's Eve and Day —All stores will operate normal business hours on Dec. 31 and Jan. 1.
• Safeway: Christmas Eve and Day — Stores will close at 6 p.m. on Dec. 24. A few locations in the DC area are open on Christmas Day; find your store here and check. Store return to regular hours on Dec. 26; some are open 24 hours a day, some are open from 5 a.m. to midnight daily. New Year's Eve and Day — Dec. 31 and Jan. 1 all stores will be open during normal business hours.
• Wegmans: Christmas Eve and Day — Stores will close at 6 p.m. on Dec. 24, be closed on Christmas Day and will reopen at 7 a.m.o n Tuesday, Dec. 26. New Year's Eve and Day — our stores will close at 8 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 31, and will reopen at 7 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 1.
• Food Lion: Christmas Eve and Day — Dec. 24 all stores will close at 7 p.m. Dec. 25 all stores will be closed. Dec. 26 all stores will be open during normal business hours; 24 hour stores will open at 7 a.m. New Year's Eve and Day — Dec. 31 and Jan. 1 all stores will be open during normal business hours.
• Trader Joes: Stores will be closed on Christmas Day and will close at 6 p.m. on New Year's Eve.
• Whole Foods: Stores will be closed on Christmas Day and will open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on New Year's Eve. They will also open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on New Year's Day.
• ShopRite Supermarkets: Stores will be open normal hours on Dec. 24 and closed on Christmas; locations are open both Dec. 31 and Jan. 1. Many ShopRite stores are independently owned and operated, so holiday hours will vary. ShopRite customers should check their local store's Facebook page or call the store to check holiday hours.
• MOMs My Organic Market: Christmas Eve and Day — Open 9am-6pm on Dec. 24, closed on Christmas Day. New Year's Eve and Day — Open 9am-8pm on Dec. 31; open 11am-6pm on Jan. 1.
• ALDI: All ALDI stores will be open limited hours on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve; all stores are closed on Christmas and New Year's Day. The holiday hours for your local store can be found by using the store locator.
• Costco: Christmas Eve and Day — Open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Dec. 24; closed on Christmas. New Year's Eve and Day — Open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Dec. 31; closed on New Year's Day.
• Sam's Club: Stores will be closed on New Year's Day and closed on Christmas.
• Walmart: Stores will be closed on Christmas and open on regular hours on New Year's Day.
• Target: All stores will open at 7 a.m. and close at 10 p.m. or 11 p.m. on Christmas Eve. Stores will be closed on Christmas. On New Year's Eve, all stores open at regular time — either 7 a.m. or 8 a.m. — and will close at 9 p.m. or 10 p.m. On New Year's Day, all stores open at regular time and will close at 10 p.m., 11 p.m. or midnight.
