Harris Teeter Recalls Frozen Yogurt In VA, DC For Peanuts

Harris Teeter has recalled some frozen yogurt because it contains peanuts that weren't labeled. States affected include Virginia and DC.

WASHINGTON, DC — A grocery store chain with locations in Virginia and Washington, D.C., has voluntarily recalled its brand of frozen yogurt because of peanuts included in the product without proper labeling. Federal officials say Harris Teeter Low Fat Frozen Yogurt Cookies & Cream 1.5 quart cartons distributed to stores in Virginia, Washington, D.C., and six other states have been pulled from stores.

The laminated cartons have a UPC of #0 72036 98182 0, and the recall includes all sell by dates up to July 30, 2019, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

The recall product was distributed to Harris Teeter stores located in Washington, D.C., Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia between June 6 and Sept. 23, according to the news release. The company will use loyalty card data to notify shoppers of the recall via voicemail and email.

Harris Teeter officials were notified of the problem via a consumer comment of finding peanut butter cups in the product. Investigators say the problem was caused by a mix-up of the cartons.

"Product quality and integrity are paramount to Harris Teeter. The company has promptly removed the product from its frozen food cases," the grocery chain, which is owned by Kroger, said.

Customers who purchased this item and have an allergy or sensitivity to peanuts should not consume it. Instead, return the frozen yogurt to a Harris Teeter store for a full refund.
