‘Hocus Pocus’ Movie Returning To Georgetown Theater

It might sound like a bunch of hocus pocus, but AMC Theatres is bringing Disney's iconic 1993 film back to celebrate its 25th anniversary.

GEORGETOWN, DC — ‘90s kids will love this. The Sanderson sisters are coming out of retirement, and no, Max Dennison, this isn’t a bunch of hocus pocus. Disney’s iconic 1993 film “Hocus Pocus” turned 25 years old this year, and AMC Theatres wants to celebrate appropriately, by bringing it back to theaters nationwide, including to DC.

So if you can’t get enough of Winfred (Bette Midler), Sarah (Sarah Jessica Parker) and Mary (Kathy Najimy), make sure you mark your calendars — the film is returning to select AMC theaters from Oct. 26 through Oct. 31.

In the family film, unsuspecting pranksters conjure up three witches from seventeenth-century Salem, Massachusetts, and a night of chaos ensues. The Sanderson sisters try to bewitch the town and reclaim their youth. Their only hurdle: three meddling children hellbent on thwarting their dubious plan.

“Hocus Pocus,” rated PG, was released on July 16th, 1993 and raked in more than $39 million at the box office. The movie also sold more than 4.4 million DVD and Blu-Ray copies, according to The-Numbers.com, and has inspired numerous child and adult Halloween costumes.

While critics didn’t fall in love with the film, audiences loved it. The ratings aggregator Rotten Tomatoes gave the film a 30 percent on its “Tomatometer,” with 30 out of 43 critics giving it a “rotten” rating. Meanwhile, 70 percent of users liked the film and gave it an average rating of 3.1 out of 5.
