Major Disruptions, Changes On 3 Lines: Metro Weekend Schedule

WASHINGTON, DC — There are plenty of things to do and see in the D.C. area this holiday weekend. Some attractions you'll find include: The Emporiyum DC, Holiday Bazaar, National Veterans Day Service, George Washington Whiskey Festival, and Pumpkin Palooza.

If you're thinking of taking the Metro on Saturday, Nov. 9 through Monday, Nov. 11, you should plan accordingly.

Here's everything you need to know before heading out for the three-day weekend:

Red Line trains will run every 6 to 8 minutes.

Orange Line trains will operate every 12 to 15 minutes between Vienna/Fairfax-GMU and Ballston-MU and between Federal Center SW and New Carrollton only.

Other other disruptions and changes:

  • Free shuttle buses will replace trains between McPherson Square and Federal Center SW
  • L'Enfant Plaza (lower level), Smithsonian, Federal Triangle, and Metro Center (lower level) will be closed
  • Riders traveling to and from Virginia Square-GMU, Clarendon, Court House, Rosslyn, Foggy Bottom-GWU, and Farragut West should use Blue and Silver Line trains
  • Riders transferring to and from the Red Line may want to use Farragut Crossing
  • To accommodate shuttle bus connections, the last Orange Line trains will leave:
    • New Carrollton 30 minutes earlier (at 12:04 a.m.) on Saturday and 19 minutes earlier (at 10:15 p.m.) on Sunday
    • Vienna 20 minutes earlier (at 11:58 p.m.) on Saturday

Silver Line trains will run every 12 to 15 minutes between Wiehle-Reston East and McPherson Square only.

Other other disruptions and changes:

  • Free shuttle buses replace trains between McPherson Square and Federal Center SW
  • L'Enfant Plaza (lower level), Smithsonian, Federal Triangle, and Metro Center (lower level) will be closed
  • Riders traveling to and from stations between Federal Center SW and Largo Town Center should take the Blue Line
  • Riders transferring to and from the Red Line may want to use Farragut Crossing
  • To accommodate shuttle bus connections, the last Silver Line trains will leave Wiehle-Reston East 15 minutes earlier (at 11:55 p.m.) on Saturday

Blue Line trains will run every 12 to 15 minutes between Franconia-Springfield & McPherson Square and Federal Center SW & Largo Town Center.

Other other disruptions and changes:

  • Free shuttle buses replace trains between McPherson Square and Federal Center SW
  • L'Enfant Plaza (lower level), Smithsonian, Federal Triangle, and Metro Center (lower level) will be closed
  • To accommodate shuttle bus connections, the last Blue Line train will leave Franconia-Springfield 20 minutes earlier (at 12:10 a.m.) on Saturday

Yellow and Green Line trains will operate every 12 to 15 minutes.


On Monday, Nov. 11, Metro will open at 5 a.m. and close at 11:30 p.m. Trains will run on a Saturday schedule, parking will be free at all Metro parking facilities, and off-peak fares will be in effect all day.
