Opinion: Media Ratings Heading South Without Daily Trump Coverage

Whether you liked him or hated him people watched him. Articles pro and con were read, now it's less controversial President Biden.

What will Stephen Colbert, Seth Meyers, Jim Acosta, Don Lemon, Anderson Cooper, and the others who’s media power reigned supreme do now that Donald Trump is no longer President.

The revenue bean counters of the media companies most likely will not be happy not having Trump stories to fuel their bottom line.


A professor of mine (Ralph Purcell) at GWU once said in class a political disaster story is more interesting than a political success story. Of course he was talking about Nixon way back then, but these days it was Trump moving the Money meters of the media business.

The new White House message folks do not want that to continue. They want to control the daily message. It’s true they perhaps used the Trump phenomenon to achieve power. After all the election was a Trump or “not Trump” process with decent guy not campaigning staying humble in the basement winning. Speaker Pelosi is in a unique position as perhaps still the most powerful Democrat in D.C. - only time will tell.

However Trump may come back not politically but as a media ratings star through trials, lawsuits, impeachments and illegal rallies. I am not sure if he will be this generations George Wallace who went to his grave believing his own government may have financed his ultimate demise, but he seems to be leaning in that direction .

We all as Americans must hope the Biden Administration has the answers for Covid. However make no mistake about it when Trump departed the White House, Elvis left the building.
