Peak Cherry Blossom Dates Announced

As the region prepares for even more snow, mark your calendar for one of the best parts of spring.

It should surprise no one that the peak blooms for Cherry Blossom season will arrive a little later than usual.

The National Park Service announced Tuesday that our local cherry blossom trees will be at peak bloom between April 11 and April 14. That’s off from the average peak bloom of April 3, according to The Washington Post.

The National Cherry Blossom Festival is scheduled for March 20 through April 12.

World-renowned performers will entertain at the historic Warner Theatre for the annual event that celebrates the gift of thousands of these trees from Tokyo to Washington, DC., more than 100 years ago.

The National Cherry Blossom Festival Opening Ceremony is on Saturday, March 21. Tickets are sold out, but walk-ups will be accepted if space is available.

In past years, festival events have celebrated the Japanese culture and included local high school performances. Area businesses have also participated with Cherry Blossom themed deals and events.
