Smithsonian Extends Exhibition Dates at Renwick Gallery

From the Smithsonian American Art Museum: The closing date for the exhibition "Visions and Revisions: Renwick Invitational 2016" at the Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian American Art Museum has been extended through Jan. 16, 2017.

"Visions and Revisions" presents the work of Steven Young Lee, Kristen Morgin, Jennifer Trask and Norwood Viviano, contemporary artists expanding the boundaries of their mediums through innovative approaches to their materials and techniques. The exhibition includes more than 70 objects showcasing a range of early and new works by each artist. Signature works by each are be displayed, including Morgin's to-scale clay depictions of a "decaying" grand piano and a low-rider car and Viviano's room-sized installation "Global Cities," comprising suspended forms of fused and sculpted glass depicting burgeoning world populations.

Nora Atkinson, the museum's Lloyd Herman Curator of Craft, organized the exhibition. The artists were selected by Atkinson; Suzanne Ramljak, curator of exhibitions at the American Federation of Arts and editor at Metalsmith; and Anna Walker, the Windgate Foundation Curatorial Fellow for Contemporary Craft at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.
