This huge nine-bedroom, 12-bath mansion at 3425 Prospect St. NW-- just a block from the Georgetown end of the Francis Scott Key Bridge -- offers 6,433 square feet of space and all the history you could hope for, according to the realtor.com listing.

And you'll pay for every bit of that luxury and history: at $8.5 million, it's one of the most expensive properties you're likely to find in an already pricey D.C. area.

"This elegant Georgetown mansion has a long history of hosting Senators and Presidents," the listing states. "Built in 1797 by John Mason (nephew of George Mason) and named Quality Hill by its subsequent owner, the house has been meticulously renovated and features over 10,000 sq ft (est) with 9 bedrooms and 11 baths. Each room has a preserved sense of history with modern updates."

It definitely has a historical feel to inside, but there are plenty of modern luxuries, including a spacious kitchen with a huge island and hardwood floors. It also has a large and beautiful outdoor space, which is certainly hard to find in the cramped Georgetown area.
