The Washington Monument Temporarily Closed Monday Due to Entrance Leak
The affected X-ray machine halted visits to the monument Dec. 29.

The Washington Monument is reopened after it was temporarily closed Monday morning for an affected security machine.
There was a leak above the security screening room that caused damage to the X-ray machine, Public Affairs Officer for the National Mall and Memorial parks Mike Litterst told NBC Washington.
The monument was closed for a few hours since visitors could not be screened.

It is unclear what caused the leak.
The Washington Monument was closed for over 32 months after it sustained serious damage during an earthquake in August 2011. The monument reopened its doors in May 2014.
