Heat Advisory Issued As 100-Plus Degrees Expected For DC, NoVa

Across the D.C. region, expect high temperatures throughout Tuesday and possible severe thunderstorms. A heat advisory is in effect.

WASHINGTON, DC — Portions of the Washington, D.C., metro region are expected to endure high temperatures throughout Tuesday, with several severe storms possible later in the day, according to the National Weather Service.

A heat advisory is in effect for northeastern Maryland, including Baltimore, from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m., the NWS reported. Residents there can expect temperatures that feel like 105 degrees, while other areas will see temperatures in the lower 100s.

Several severe thunderstorms may pass through the region late in the afternoon and evening, with a chance of strong thunderstorms affecting coastal waters.

NWS issued a hazardous weather outlook at 7:55 a.m., on Tuesday, for Maryland's portion of the Chesapeake Bay, Tidal Potomac River, and parts of northern Virginia, central Maryland, and D.C. along the I-95 corridor.

High temperatures in the 100 to 105 degree range may continue into Wednesday, according to NWS.

Localities affected by the hazardous weather outlook include: Prince George's, Anne Arundel, Charles, St. Marys, Calvert, Central and Southeast Montgomery, Howard, and Harford counties, in Maryland; and Prince William County, Manassas, Manassas Park, Fairfax County, Arlington County, Falls Church, Alexandria, Stafford, Spotsylvania, and King George County.

Tuesday: Sunny and hot, with a high near 97. Heat index values as high as 103. Southwest wind 6 to 8 mph.

Tuesday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 73. Southwest wind 5 to 7 mph becoming calm after midnight.

Wednesday: A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Sunny and hot, with a high near 97. Heat index values as high as 101. Calm wind becoming south 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Wednesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 74. Southwest wind around 6 mph.
