30-Year DC Police Veteran Dies Following Medical Emergency

The Metropolitan Police Department is mourning the death of Sgt. Donna Allen, a 30-year veteran of the force.

WASHINGTON, DC — Sgt. Donna Allen, 49, a 30-year veteran of the Metropolitan Police Department, died early Wednesday morning following a medical emergency after she had finished a midnight tour of duty, according to a police release. Her death does not appear to be related to the new coronavirus, also known as COVID-19, though further medical tests are being conducted.

"Sergeant Allen's unexpected passing brings the MPD family great sadness," said Chief of Police Peter Newsham, in the release. "Her friendship and good nature will be missed by many. I offer my deepest, most heartfelt condolences to Sergeant Allen's family and friends at this time."

Allen is survived by her mother and five siblings.
