$45K Reward Offered For Tips In DC Girl’s Shooting Death

Police are offering $45,000 for any information that leads to the arrest in the death of 10-year-old Makiyah Wilson in Northeast DC.

WASHINGTON, DC — DC police and the FBI are offering a reward of up to $45,000 for any information that leads to the arrest in the fatal shooting of 10-year-old Makiyah Wilson, who was killed near her home in Clay Terrace on July 16.

Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser and Police Chief Peter Newsham said the FBI offered the $20,000 increase for the reward at a news conference Monday morning.

Police said four masked men opened fire in a courtyard area of 300 block of 53rd St. NE. at around 8 p.m. on July 16, killing Makiyah and injuring others in the crowd.

"I would think that any man that was responsible for a death of a 10-year-old by way of a bullet in our community would come down to 101 M St., to our homicide unit, and turn themselves in," Newsham said. "These five men have chosen not to do that, so we intend to do everything that's possibly in our power to find out who is responsible and hold them accountable."

About 15 to 20 people were "out enjoying the weather," when the shooting occurred, Assistant D.C. Police Chief Chanel Dickerson said.

Video shows the suspects, armed with handguns and at least one assault weapon, fired over 70 rounds in multiple directions, Newsham said. They got in and out of black, four-door Infiniti sedan.

"When the dust settled, 10-year-old Makiyah Wilson was left dead and four others had suffered gunshot wounds," he said.

The car was found in Prince George's County two days later. Newsham said the car was stolen.

Detectives have made significant progress in this case, Newsham said, but police continue to ask for the public's help in identifying the suspects.

Police are searching for five suspects — detectives believe four of them got out of the car, while one person stayed in the driver's seat during the shooting.

Wilson and multiple adults were taken to local hospitals for treatment. Wilson was declared dead after all life-saving efforts failed.

Anyone with information is asked to call 202-727-9099 or text 50411. Additionally, anonymous information may be submitted to the department's TEXT TIP LINE by sending a text message to 50411.
