Chance Of Snowy Mix For DC Area In The Forecast: Report
Snow already? Don't expect accumulation, but the forecast for Veterans Day in the D.C. area includes a possible snowy mix.
It feels like temperatures just turned toward fall here in the D.C. area, but a new forecast suggests that winter is coming faster than you think. This upcoming Veterans Day on Monday could include some snow, argues one meteorologist.
It certainly wouldn't be the first time we've gotten snow on Veteran's Day -- we got 11.5 inches in 1987, the biggest November snowfall for our area ever. But it's unlikely we'll see much accumulation this time around, and the presence of snow at all isn't a lock.
NBC Washington's Chuck Bell notes that there is merely a chance of a rain/snow mix on Monday, meaning we may not see flakes at all, so keep an eye on the forecast in the coming days.

So you're saying there's a chance! Well, before kids start planning for a snowday on Monday - which is Veteran's Day - let me explain. Our biggest November snow came on Veteran's Day 1987. This Monday, there is a CHANCE of a rain/snow mix. pic.twitter.com/Fdmnnfq0Cp

The possibility is there thanks to the weekend forecast, which calls for wind chills to dip into the lower 30s.
If snow were to fall, it would be quite early by our standards, as the average first snowfall happens in mid-December. But with temperatures 6 degrees below normal this month, snow chances are a bit higher than usual, according to NBC Washington.

The Washington Post's Capital Weather Gang is being a bit more cautious with Monday still being almos ta week away. They echo predictions of a very cold weekend, but only venture that "some cold rain possible" on an "unsettled" Veterans Day, with highs topping out in the 40s.
For the next few days expect milder temperatures topping out in the 60s and 50s, gradually dropping as a strong cold front moves in Thursday and sends temps tumbling.
