DC Coronavirus Update: 108-Year-Old Man Among 11 New Deaths

D.C. Department of Health confirmed 11 additional deaths in the District due to the new coronavirus, including a 108-year-old man.

WASHINGTON, DC — D.C. Department of Health confirmed 220 additional positive cases of COVID-19, illness associated with the new coronavirus, on Thursday. That's up from the 177 reported on Wednesday. This brings the District's total number of positive cases to date to 32,820.

D.C. Health also confirmed 11 new deaths in the District due to COVID-19. The deaths are described as:

  • 42-year-old man
  • 59-year-old man
  • 60-year-old woman
  • 62-year-old man
  • 64-year-old man
  • 66-year-old woman
  • 74-year-old man
  • 80-year-old man
  • 88-year-old woman
  • 93-year-old man
  • 108-year-old man

The total number of deaths due to COVID-19 in the D.C. now stands at 842.

According to D.C. Health, 978,833 coronavirus tests have been administered in the District, 375,237 residents have been tested, and 22,899 have been cleared from isolation.

The District currently has 36 intensive care unit beds available out of 345 total intensive care unit beds. There are currently 208 in-use ventilators and 232 available. Also, there are 74 COVID-19-positive ICU patients.

Globally, more than 92.5 million people have been infected by COVID-19, and over 1.9 million people have died, Johns Hopkins University reported Thursday morning. In the United States, more than 23 million people have been infected and over 385,000 people have died from COVID-19.

District residents should take the following actions to help prevent the spread of COVID-19:

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Wash hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. An alcohol-based hand sanitizer can be used if soap and water are not available.
  • Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
