DC Coronavirus Update: More Than 1 Million Tests Completed

WASHINGTON, DC — D.C. Department of Health achieved a major milestone on Saturday, reporting that it had completed 1,000,492 tests for COVID-19, the illness associated with the new coronavirus. To date, 379,319 residents have been tested and 23,319 have been cleared from isolation.

D.C. Health confirmed 397 additional positive cases of COVID-19 on Saturday. This brings the District's total number of positive cases to date to 33,537.

D.C. Health also confirmed five new deaths in the District due to COVID-19. The deaths are described as:

  • 54-year-old man
  • 58-year-old woman
  • 73-year-old man
  • 78-year-old man
  • 82-year-old woman.

The total number of deaths due to COVID-19 in the D.C. now stands at 847.

The District currently has 68 intensive care unit beds available out of 345 total intensive care unit beds. There are currently 214 in-use ventilators and 226 available. Also, there are 67 COVID-19-positive ICU patients.

Globally, more than 94.1 million people have been infected by COVID-19, and over 2 million people have died, Johns Hopkins University reported Saturday morning. In the United States, more than 23.6 million people have been infected and over 393,000 people have died from COVID-19.

District residents should take the following actions to help prevent the spread of COVID-19:

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Wash hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. An alcohol-based hand sanitizer can be used if soap and water are not available.
  • Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
