DC To Honor LGBTQ Pride With Design Painted On City Street
District Department of Transportation will be adding rainbow-colored bands Thursday to a Dupont Circle neighborhood intersection.
WASHINGTON, DC — In an effort to honor the 50th Anniversary of Pride Month, the District Department of Transportation will be adding rainbow-colored bands to a Dupont Circle neighborhood.
“While we wish we could have celebrated this month at our annual Capital Pride Parade, we hope this artwork will serve as a reminder of our DC values of promoting inclusivity and equality for all our residents,” Mayor Muriel Bowser said, in a release.. “Particularly on the heels of last week’s historic Supreme Court decision, DC will continue to be on the front lines in defending and promoting the rights of our LGBTQ community.”
Workers will install colors from Daniel Quasar's Progress flag this Thursday, at 9 .m., at the intersection of P Street and 17th Street, N.W., weather permitting. The design will be updated to incorporate the representation of transgender and LGBTQ people of color.

“This installation honors the District’s LGBTQ community and the rich history and diversity of our city,” said DDOT Director Jeff Marootian, in the release. “We are thrilled to support Mayor Bowser in commemorating this very special occasion and adding more art to public space.”
The installation at P and 17th streets is part of DDOT's Art in the Right of Way (ARPW) program, which beautifies public spaces with artwork.
