This DC Neighborhood Has a Staggering Rent

Rents in D.C. are growing at a faster pace than the national average, a new report says.

Bad news, D.C. residents: your rents just keep getting higher and higher. And one neighborhood in particular is ridiculously high-priced.

That neighborhood is Foggy Bottom, according to a new report from ApartmentList.com that indicates that rent growth in the nation's capital surpassed the national average for the month of April, growing 3.0 percent compared to 2.8 percent nationwide. D.C. had actually been lagging behind national rates most months for the past year, but in April it surged past the national average, showing a 0.9 percent jump between March and April.

While a one-bedroom apartment in D.C. will set you back $2,170 on average, and a 2-bedroom costs $3,000 -- more than twice the national median price, the report states -- that's nothing compared to the Foggy Bottom neighborhood, which costs a stunning $4,660 per month on average for a two-bedroom apartment. That's more than a $1,000 higher than the next highest priced neighborhood: Chinatown, where it's $3,620 on average. U Street, Mount Vernon Square, Dupont Circle and the Cathedral neighborhoods follow closely behind.
