DC Offers Utility Bill Payment Assistance To Pepco Customers
The District of Columbia has a new program to help residents struggling to make utility bill payments due to the impacts of COVID-19.
WASHINGTON, DC — The District of Columbia has a new program to provide financial assistance for renters and housing providers that also helps residents struggling to make utility bill payments due to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The program, Stronger Together by Assisting You (STAY DC), is providing more than $350 million in assistance to help District residents who are challenged in meeting their financial needs.
Residents can visit the STAY DC website to find out what financial support they qualify for and how to apply. Applicants also can call the STAY DC call center at 833-4-STAYDC for support throughout their application process.

Pepco, the regulated electric utility in the District, said customers in arrears need to act quickly to receive the funds, so they can bring their account balances current. Visit Pepco's website for more information on assistance and resources from the company or or call 202-833-7500.
"Pepco understands the ongoing challenges customers are facing due to the COVID-19 pandemic and is committed to helping every customer meet their energy needs," the company said Thursday in a news release.

Pepco, a subsidiary of Chicago-based Exelon, also is working with the District Department of Energy and Environment and the DC Sustainable Energy Utility on the Reduce Energy Use DC program, with the goal of getting residents to reduce their electricity usage.
In 2020, nearly 2,500 residents took the pledge, and the 2021 goal is to get 6,000 pledges. Residents who take the pledge will have a chance to win a $300 credit on their Pepco energy account.
The Reduce Energy Use DC pledge period runs through July 31. District residents can take the Reduce Energy Use DC pledge by visiting ReduceEnergyUseDC.com, texting "SaveMore" to 52886, or calling 202-872-2020 or 855-673-3823.
