Protests This Weekend Force Closure Of Some DC Streets

WASHINGTON, DC — The Metropolitan Police Department and the D.C. Department of Transportation will be closing a number of downtown streets and implementing parking restrictions this weekend due to First Amendment demonstrations, according a police release.

Beginning at 6 a.m., Saturday, and running through 11:59 p.m., Sunday, the following streets will be designated as temporary Emergency No Parking zones for the demonstrations:

• Constitution Avenue from Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W. to 17th Street, N.W.
• Pennsylvania Avenue from 3rd Street, N.W. to 15th Street, N.W
• Independence Avenue from 3rd Street, N.W. to 14th Street, S.W.
• Connecticut Avenue from I Street, N.W. to L Street, N.W
• Vermont Avenue from I Street, N.W. to L Street, N.W.
• I Street from 14th Street, N.W. to 17th Street, N.W.
• H Street from 14th Street, N.W. to 17th Street, N.W.
• K Street from 14th Street, N.W. to 17th Street, N.W.
• New York Avenue from 14th Street, N.W. to 15th Street, N.W.
• 17th Street from Constitution Avenue, N.W. to L Street, N.W.

Motorists may encounter restrictions at intermittent times on Saturday, from 6 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. on the streets below. These same streets will be closed to vehicular traffic on Sunday, from 4 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. Vehicles on essential business or traveling to-and-from their residence will be allowed to enter the restricted area during these times.

MPD encourages motorists to find alternate routes this weekend in order to avoid possible delays. The public must obey the temporary emergency no parking signage. Vehicles parked in violation of the signage will be ticketed and towed.
