DC Snow Update: Here's What To Expect Tuesday

Here's the latest forecast on our snow chances on Tuesday.

The latest forecast for snow in the D.C. area still calls for flakes, but as expected all along, accumulation should be minimal if there's any at all, meteorologists say.

The Washington Post's Capital Weather Gang put the snow potential index at just one out of 10 for Tuesday as a blast of cold air moves into our area.

"A good chance to see some wet snowflakes in the air on Tuesday but not cold enough to stick in most spots," they wrote.

Originally, meteorologists expected that Arctic cold front to roll in on Monday for a freezing Veterans Day, but it's going to be pretty mild with temperatures topping out in the 60s.

However, by Tuesday, that cold front will arrive with a vengeance. And Wednesday will be the coldest of all, with highs only reaching into the upper 30s despite sunny skies, CWG predicts.

The weather will remain chilly Thursday through Sunday. There's an outside chance of a storm bringing some cold rain on Sunday but currently that's not expected.

For some perspective, temperatures in the 40s and 30s like we are expected to see this week are well below average for this time of year. November temperatures average around 59 degrees for a high and 37 degrees for a low. The temperatures more resemble what we are likely to see in December, where temperatures top out at 48 degrees and dip to 30 degrees on average.

As far as snowfall, we typically get some snow in November at some point, but usually around a half inch. Snow increases in December, but still isn't much, followed by January and February when we see the most snow.
