Group Opens Transitional Drug Treatment Program for Women in DC

WASHINGTON, DC — Samaritan Inns has opened a transitional drug addiction treatment program for women in the District of Columbia.

The group, a nonprofit that focuses on homelessness and addiction, is accepting new clients at a newly renovated location on Ontario Road, formerly known as Ontario Inn.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevent and the National Center for Health Statistics reported that 81,230 people died of drug overdoses in the 12-month period ending in May 2020, the largest number of drug overdoses ever recorded in a year.

The new women’s transitional treatment program will address the need for extended residential treatment for women. The newly renovated house can accommodate 50 women annually in a program, which integrates with the intensive treatment in the 28-day adult treatment program.

The women will be assigned a counselor and will begin 20 hours of clinical counseling per week, trauma-informed groups, 12-step meetings, substance abuse relapse prevention and psychoeducation.
