Heat Wave Bakes NoVA, DC: Timeline To 94 Degrees

Heat will bake DC and northern Virginia with highs in the 90s. Here's the hour-by-hour weather forecast for this weekend's heat wave.

WASHINGTON, DC — We're three weeks away from the official start of summer, but this weekend will be full of scorching heat, according to the National Weather Service. Forecasters are predicting temperatures in the mid-90s this weekend in the Washington, D.C.-northern Virginia region.

A high near 94 is expected Saturday, with mostly clear conditions and a southwest wind during the day near 7 mph keeping things from feeling any hotter.

Temps will peak between 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Already by 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, the National Weather Service reported the temperatures had reached 90 degrees in DC, Manassas, Arlington, Alexandria and McLean, and upper 80s in Reston, Vienna, Leesburg, Fairfax City, Fredericksburg, and much of the region.

The low Saturday night will be about 70 degrees, according to the forecast.

Sunday brings similar conditions, with the high near 94 and a low around 72. A south wind of 3 to 6 mph is expected.

Temperatures should stay near 90 Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, with a chance of showers and thunderstorms increasing each day. The chance Monday is 30 percent and on Tuesday and Wednesday, there is a 60 percent chance of rain. Lows will be in the low 70s.
