Man Sexually Abused Child On Metro Train: Police

WASHINGTON, DC — A Maryland man is accused of groping a child while riding on the Metro as it traveled between the Pentagon and L'Enfant Plaza stations on the Yellow Line, police say.

Metro Transit Police arrested Rajkumar Chandrakant Patel, 55, of Laurel on charges of second degree child abuse, WMATA said in a statement.

MTPD officers stopped Patel shortly before 6 p.m. after the juvenile male victim reported "that the suspect sat next to him and then groped him," the statement reads.

"When the train arrived at L'Enfant Plaza, the victim exited the train and reported the incident to MTPD officers on the platform," it adds. "Officers boarded the train with the victim, and the victim positively identified Patel as the suspect."

Patel has an initial status hearing set for Nov. 6.
