Marine Shoots Himself While Standing Post At Marine Barracks

A marine shot himself in the stomach while standing post at the Marine Barracks in Southeast DC Friday morning,

(Updated at 1:45 p.m. Friday): WASHINGTON, DC — A marine shot himself in the stomach while standing post at the Marine Barracks in Southeast DC Friday morning, U.S. Marines officials said.

The shooting occurred in the 800 block of G St. at about 8 a.m., a statement from the U.S. Marines said.

The marine was taken to George Washington University Hospital and is in stable condition.

NCIS is handling the investigation. The incident is currently under investigation and there are no further details.

Marines, along with members of the Metropolitan Police Department, Washington Navy Yard Fire and Emergency Services, and District of Columbia Fire and Emergency Medical Serves Department, responded to the incident.
